According to the first quarter data released by the United Nations tourism organization"> world tourism organization (UNWTO), there was a two-fold increase in travel worldwide in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
An estimated 235 million tourists worldwide took international trips in the first three months of 2023, more than double the same period in 2022. Overall, international travel is on track to return to pre-pandemic levels, with international travel reaching 80 percent of pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of 2023, according to UNWTO.
According to revised data for 2022, more than 960 million tourists traveled internationally last year. This represents two-thirds (66 percent) of pre-pandemic travel.
