According to the news source of the Turkish tourism sector, Tourism News Center, the natural wonder of Cennet Koyu in Muğla's Bodrum district, one of Turkey's most important tourism destinations, has once again come to the agenda with the construction of a hotel and residences by Cengiz Holding.
This time, Bodrum Ada Otelcilik has applied to build a hotel in Cennet Koyu in Gölköy Neighborhood, which environmentalists and non-governmental organizations have fought hard to protect. According to the information in the system of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, if the project is approved, a hotel will be built on 32,620 square meters of forest area.
If the 82 million 640 thousand TL project to be built by vedat aşçı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Astaş Holding, whose partnerships include Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Kempinski Residans, is approved, 108 rooms consisting of 13 blocks will be built in the region. Bodrum Ada Otelcilik Turizm Bağcılık Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. is a company established in 1997 in Perpa.
Astaş Holding, owned by Vedat Aşçı, had previously come to the fore with The Residences Mandarin Oriental built in the same area. With the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 210 villas and a 102-room hotel were built on the 600-acre land, which is located in a Grade 2 natural protected area and a Grade 3 archaeological site with rock tombs from the Roman period. Both the uprooting of thousands of olive trees and the destruction of nature caused reactions from environmentalists.
The construction of a residence and hotel that Mehmet Cengiz's company started in December 2022 on 180 acres of land in Gökburun, next to Cennet Koyu, was sealed and stopped with the decision of Bodrum Municipality to cancel the license, and the objection of Cengiz Holding A.Ş., of which Mehmet Cengiz is the chairman, to the cancellation of the license was accepted by Muğla 1st Administrative Court and a stay of execution was issued.
