According to the 2024 Blue Flag awards announced by the international Blue Flag jury, 567 beaches, 27 marinas, 18 tourism boats and 9 individual yachts in Turkey will fly the Blue Flag.
Stating that Turkey maintained its third place in the world in the number of Blue Flag beaches this year, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said on his social media accounts that they are proud of their consistent success in the ranking of Blue Flag awards announced by the International Foundation for Environmental Education-FEE, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, and that they are determinedly moving towards their first place target.
Emphasising that they have increased the number of Blue Flags every year with the successful work carried out under the coordination of the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRKÇEV) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and the Ministry of Health, Minister Ersoy said in his post:
‘’The Blue Flag suits our beaches very well! This year, 567 beaches, 27 marinas, 18 tourism boats and 9 individual yachts were awarded the Blue Flag. We maintain our 3rd place in the world in the ranking of the countries with the most Blue Flags this year. Of course, we are proud of this consistent success, but we are also determinedly moving towards our goal of first place. We are increasing the number of Blue Flag beaches every year with the successful works we carry out under the coordination of the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRKÇEV) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and the Ministry of Health. Spain has the most Blue Flag beaches in the world again this year, while Greece ranked second. Turkey ranked third, Italy fourth and France fifth in the list. This year, 16 more beaches from Turkey were deemed worthy of the international Blue Flag awards carried out under the coordination of the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TURÇEV).
This year, 3 beaches in Istanbul, 3 in Balıkesir, 3 in Aydın, 2 in Antalya, 2 in Muğla, 2 in Antalya, 2 in Muğla, 1 in İzmir, 1 in Çanakkale, 1 in Tekirdağ, 1 in Bursa, 1 in Kırklareli, 1 in Kırklareli and 1 in Yalova were added to the number of Blue Flag beaches in Turkey, which was 551 in 2023, while Samsun, Mersin, Kocaeli, Bartın, Ordu, Zonguldak and Van were the provinces where the number of Blue Flags did not change.
Antalya became the city with the highest number of Blue Flags in Turkey with 233 beaches in 2024, while Muğla ranked second with 112 beaches and İzmir ranked third with 64 beaches. Balıkesir, Aydın, Samsun, Çanakkale, Mersin, Kocaeli and Tekirdağ were among the provinces with the most Blue Flag beaches after İzmir.
