The communications tower and building, which has been an important part of the London skyline since its construction in 1965 and was sold to a hotel operator for £ 275 million ($ 347.1 million), is preparing to become a hotel.
Inaugurated in 1965 by then British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, the 620-metre BT Group-owned communications tower and building in London's affluent Fitzrovia neighbourhood was the tallest structure in the British capital until 1980.
Operated since 1984 by BT Group and sold to MCR Hotels Group, BT Tower announced that most of the network operations at the building are now provided over BT Group's fixed and mobile networks.
With 25,000 rooms and hotels, MCR Hotels Group is the fourth largest hotel owner in the United States by number of rooms and owns around 150 hotels, including the TWA Hotel in New York.
