According to information about the tragic incident in Egypt's hurghada region, a diver who arrived at the scene immediately after the attack said that people rushed to the victim's aid after the lifeguard of a nearby hotel raised the alarm, but they could not reach him in time, while Russia's TASS news agency reported that the deceased was a Russian man born in 1999.
The Russian Consulate General in Hurghada and two Egyptian security services said in a statement that a tiger shark was responsible for the attack, while the Egyptian Ministry of Environment did not give details of the victim in a statement posted on its social media account.
The shark was captured, the Ministry and a team of other officials said, adding that swimming, snorkeling and other water sports activities were banned on several beaches near the site of the attack.
In a statement posted on its official channel on the Telegram messaging app, the Consulate General urged Russian tourists to be careful in the water and strictly observe any swimming bans imposed by local authorities.
