Russia has issued a travel warning to its citizens due to the epidemic in Egypt, where Turkey has lost Russian tourists due to price increases.
Confirming the dengue outbreak that forced Russia to issue a warning to its citizens visiting the country last Tuesday, a development that could affect tourism amid the economic crisis, Egypt's Ministry of Health announced that an unknown number of people in Al Ilayqat have tested positive for dengue virus.
The ministry said in a statement that there were no deaths and infected people were being treated at home, adding that the city of Al Ilayqat is located near the Nile River in Qena governorate in central Egypt. Speculation about the dengue virus began last week when people in the area reported fever, body aches and headaches, Egyptian state-owned news outlet Al-Ahram reported, adding that dengue is a viral infection caused by the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Russia's health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, which announced that it has tightened health and quarantine controls for flights from Egypt, warned Russian tourists planning to vacation in Egypt and stated that Egypt is an important tourism destination for Russians.
There is concern that the warning will affect the country's tourism revenues. It was stated that Russian tourists are particularly important for the country's tourism due to the current economic crisis.
