Ramsay Rankoussi, Head of Business Development for Africa and Turkey at Radisson Hotel Group, answered Tourism FM's questions about their long-term goals and vision for Turkey.
What are your long-term goals and vision for Turkey?
We currently have close to 50 hotels in operation and under construction in Turkey. We aim to reach 70 hotels in the next 3 to 5 years and 100 hotels by 2030. 50 per cent of our portfolio is in Istanbul, where we continue to be the market leader, and we have a diversified presence across Turkey. As we grow further in Turkey, we aim to strengthen our presence in key cities such as Izmir and Ankara, as well as coastal regions such as Bodrum and Antalya. We have accelerated our growth across all categories with the mid-scale Park Inn by Radisson as well as the upscale Radisson. Radisson Blu, our main upper upscale leading brand in Europe, remains our largest brand in Turkey. We also recently introduced Radisson Collection as our luxury brand.
We will soon introduce our lifestyle brand Radisson RED in Izmir. We also plan to develop it in Istanbul, Antalya and other dynamic destinations. We are demonstrating our overall commitment to further develop Turkey's tourism potential by offering a wide range of services from city hotels to residences, as well as ski and resort facilities.
What are the key market trends and opportunities on which your 2023 business development plan for Turkey is based?
Istanbul continues to be the fastest growing city, showing continuous growth performance. We aim to further strengthen our market share in the city while expanding in all segments. Residences continue to be a growth opportunity, while our Radisson brand has achieved the fastest development momentum in Turkey due to its development cost and favourable location.
We expect secondary cities to continue to grow and recover economically, prioritising the growth of our brands in these markets, while holiday tourism will continue to be a strong trend globally. This will certainly accelerate our development efforts, especially in holiday destinations in popular locations from mountainous regions to beach resorts.
How do you plan to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as customers and business partners in the Turkish market?
We have two main customer profiles: our guests and our hotel owners. For our hotel owners, we guarantee to be approachable, solution orientated and responsive. For our guests, our team works to create unforgettable moments every time. We also offer strong loyalty benefits through our Radisson Rewards programme.
Our commercial team continues its regional and global activities to position Turkey as one of our strongest markets.
In which cities and how many hotels do you plan to open in Turkey in 2023 and beyond?
We recently entered the Antalya Kaş region with our first Radisson Blu branded hotel. We opened our second hotel under the Radisson Individuals brand in Eskişehir and will open two hotels in Yalova, one Park Inn by Radisson and the other a conversion from an existing hotel. Finally, we expect to realise our expansion in Izmir with the opening of the first Radisson RED in Bornova and our Radisson Blu branded hotel, also under construction.
Are there any new hotel brands that you plan to introduce to the Turkish market in the near future?
All our brands are currently introduced in the Turkish market. In recent months, we have opened Radisson Blu Hotel Kas, which consists of 50 stylish rooms and suites. It is already one of the most popular hotels in the region with 2 different restaurants, 1 bar, 1 spa centre. As we grow further, we continue to witness opportunities with our conversion-friendly brand Radisson Individuals.
Radisson Collection has recently been successful in two locations, Bodrum and Istanbul, and our third hotel will open in Ankara. We believe this new luxury brand has further growth opportunities, especially as we look at private and historic properties across the country.
Finally, we expect Radisson to continue to lead our growth across multiple locations and spanning both residences and city hotels.
