The German government, which is preparing a law that provides financial support for additional training that employees will receive to improve their professional qualifications in order to make better use of the labor force in the country, aims to bring an additional 75 thousand workforce to the country annually with these regulations.
In the new immigration law, the so-called Opportunity Card will make it easier for foreign workers to come to Germany in search of work through a scoring system. Qualified workers with a vocational diploma and experience will be able to come to Germany without waiting for their diploma to be recognized by Germany. This will make it possible for well-educated, qualified labor to work not only in the occupation for which they were trained, but also in similar fields.
The coalition government consisting of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) has agreed on some improvements to the draft law drafted in March, and the final version of the law will be voted on in the Bundestag later this week. People who come to Germany on a tourist visa and find a job here will no longer have to go back to their home countries and re-apply for a work permit.
If the job seeker receives a job offer that meets the qualifications set out in the law, he or she will be able to start working directly in Germany. It will also make it easier for qualified workers to take their families with them.
