The reason why investors and operators put their facilities up for sale even though things are going well in tourism this year is the inability to pay the debts incurred due to the losses incurred during the pandemic period.
According to the data on the real estate portal Idealista in Spain, where the tourism sector has recovered from the heavy wound it suffered during the coronavirus epidemic that affected the whole world and has recovered rapidly and started to rise this year, the number of hotels put up for sale in the country has tripled to 1,346 in 2021.
The managers of the real estate portal Idealista said in a statement on the subject that there are hotels for sale in all Spanish provinces except the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla in the middle of summer, when the tourism season is at its peak, and that most of the hotels and facilities for sale are in coastal areas, which are tourism centers.
As of the end of August 2023, it was reported that the number of hotels for sale in Spain increased by 27 percent compared to 2022, with investment funds from the United States, Qatar and other countries buying hotels one after another.
