While the proposal prepared by the European Union (EU) Council for the digitalisation of the schengen visa has been accepted, only technical arrangements remain for the Digital Schengen Visa application to start.
The decision will be published in the EU Official Journal after the necessary signatures are signed and will enter into force 20 days after the publication date. When digital visa applications will start will be announced when the technical work on the visa platform to be prepared is completed.
When the new application comes into force, visas affixed to passports will be digitalised. In addition, Schengen visas, which will be issued over the internet as a 2D barcode, will be downloaded to mobile devices.
Digital copies of the necessary documents will be uploaded on the internet platform, and the visa fee will be paid from here.
Only first-time visa applicants, those whose biometric data are not valid and new passport holders will have to go to the consulates of Schengen countries.
