According to the news source of the tourism sector, Tourism News Center, many tourists from the UK, who came from the UK through TUI, were hospitalized due to poisoning in the five-star rixos sungate hotel in Antalya, the capital of tourism, in an incident involving several cases of poisoning, including salmonella, which was widely covered in the British press, and the British Health Safety Agency took action to investigate the situation.
British Mail on Sunday and the BBC reported that British tourists who went to the five-star Rixos Sungate Hotel in Antalya through TUI were hospitalized with salmonella and E. coli bacteria, while many children and adults who stayed at the hotel were hospitalized and hundreds of people are planning to sue the travel agency. The British Health Safety Agency has also launched an investigation into the reports of poisoning cases and the aim of the investigation is to find the source of these illnesses.
Dr. Lesley Larkin, head of Monitoring, Gastrointestinal Pathogens and Food Safety at the British Health Safety Agency, said in a statement that the agency is investigating the allegations about tourists returning from Turkey and recommends that those who have recently returned from Turkey and are concerned about any symptoms of discomfort should consult their doctor urgently.
The tourists claimed that the food at the buffet hotel was served under inappropriate conditions, that fresh food was added to leftover food, and that the plates, glasses, cutlery and spoons were dirty, and that the food was not cooked sufficiently. The British tour operator TUI claimed that the food poisoning was not caused by the hotel and that it was a neurovirus, while the hotel did not make any statement on the issue.
According to the agreement signed at the end of March with Rixos Hotels, owned by Fettah Tamince, whose scandals have been on the agenda of the tourism sector, TUI became the sole authorized dealer of Land of Legends, Rixos Beldibi, Rixos Downtown, Rixos Park Belek, Rixos Premium Belek, Rixos Premium Bodrum, Rixos Premium Göcek, Rixos Premium Tekirova, Rixos Sungate and Rixos Dubrovnik in 13 markets.
Last April, 25 British tourists were hospitalized with food poisoning at the Rixos Sungate Hotel in Kemer, Antalya, which they had visited through TUI, and the incident was widely covered in the British press.
