According to the news of Tourism FM, the first and only news radio of the tourism sector, while the interest of hotel chains and groups in the Turkish tourism market continues, according to the results of the Turkey Chain & Group Hotels Survey announced by the Turkish Hoteliers Association (TÜROB), the number of group and chain hotels operating in Turkey in the last five years has reached 67, continuing to increase despite the two-year pandemic break in 2020-2021.
Turkey is one of the countries where domestic and foreign hotel chains and groups show the most interest. According to the research announced by TÜROB, 46 of the 67 group and chain hotels are domestic and 21 are foreign investments. The number of rooms in a total of 722 accommodation facilities affiliated to chain and group hotels operating in Turkey has reached 157 thousand 495. In 2019, when this number was determined as 57 in the research conducted by TÜROB, there were 145 thousand 450 rooms in a total of 627 accommodation facilities affiliated to 57 chain and group hotels. Accordingly, an increase of 95 in the number of facilities and 12 thousand 45 in the number of rooms was observed in 2023.
According to the research, 470 city hotels with 74 thousand 343 rooms and 251 resort hotels with 83 thousand 152 rooms are identified, 221 of which are located in Istanbul, 155 in Antalya and 73 in Muğla. When we look at the distribution of the operating models of these 722 facilities, 321 of them are franchise, 257 are owner, 79 are management and 65 are lease. TÜROB President Müberra Eresin, whose views were included in the research and who pointed out that the accommodation sector in Turkey has always been attractive for domestic and foreign investors, said the following in his statement:
''Despite everything, the sector has maintained and continues to maintain its attractiveness. In addition to the increase in investments, the increase in the number of hotels within the body of domestic and foreign hotel chains is an indicator of this situation. Turkey, especially Istanbul, is still among the most attractive cities in the world for tourism investments. Domestic hotel chains need to be supported to expand abroad. The distinction in business types is often confused, but I would like to emphasise that in all these business types, the investor is mostly a Turkish company. Apart from the investors who operate the hotel with their own brand, some investors, before opening the hotel, buy the naming rights of a local or foreign chain and operate the hotel under that foreign name, or make a contract for the operation of the hotel entirely by a local or foreign brand. What we are trying to underline in particular is that Turkish companies making these hotel investments should be supported domestically and especially abroad, and the opportunity to carry their success abroad should be created. Currently, the conditions for the hospitality sector to benefit from Turquality are difficult. We have very successful local hotel chains. We should be able to support and highlight local brands more, especially for them to realise their overseas projects.''
Wyndham Hotels ranks first in terms of the number of facilities with 105 hotels in its chain. Wyndham Hotels' brands Days Hotel by Wyndham, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, La Quinta by Wyndham, Ramada, Ramada by Wyndham, Ramada Encore by Wyndham, Ramada Hotel & Suites, Ramada Hotel & Suites, Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham, Ramada Plaza, Ramada Plaza by Wyndham, Ramada Residence by Wyndham, Ramada Resort, Ramada Resort by Wyndham, Trademark Collection, Tryp by Wyndham, Wyndham, Wyndham Garden, Wyndham Grand and Wyndham Residences have a total of 15,368 rooms.
Hilton Worldwide, which ranks second in the list, includes Conrad, Curio, DoubleTree by Hilton, Hampton by Hilton, Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and LXR brands and has a total of 13 thousand 873 rooms in 77 hotels in Turkey.
Ranking third with a total of 13,233 rooms in 62 hotels, Accor Group gathers Fairmont, Grand Mercure, Ibis, Ibis Styles, Mercure, Mgallery, Movenpick, Novotel, Pullman, Raffles, Rixos, Sofıtel, Swissotel and The House of Originals hotels under its roof.
Marriott Hotels, ranked fourth, has a total of 7,674 rooms in 44 hotels, including AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, Autograph Collection, Courtyard by Marriott, Delta Hotels and Resorts, Design Hotels, Edition, Four Points by Sheraton, JW Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Le Méridien, Marriott Executive Apartments, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance Hotels & Resorts, Residence Inn by Marriott, Sheraton Hotels, St. Regis Hotels, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels and Westin Hotels.
Radisson Hotel Group ranks fifth with 4,876 rooms in 33 properties under the Park Inn by Radisson, Radisson, Radisson BLU, Radisson Collection, Radisson Individuals and Radisson Residences brands. IHG-InterContinental Hotels Group ranks sixth with 5,383 rooms in 30 properties under the Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Intercontinental and Six Senses brands.
Dedeman Hotels & Resorts (Dedeman, Park Dedeman, Ready to Stay by Dedeman, Smart by Dedeman, Managed by Dedeman) with 25 properties and 3,241 rooms, Anemon Hotels with 24 properties and 2,355 rooms, Coral Group Hotels with 20 properties and 3,867 rooms, Crystal Hotels with 16 properties and 8,139 rooms, TUI Hotels & Resorts with 16 properties and 6,801 rooms and Titanic Hotels with 10 properties and 3,306 rooms.
